Manistee River Fishing Report
This week has brought a variety of weather with some rain and great bump in water levels to spark some fresh steelhead into running up the river to spawn. It has been the strangest of springs so far with water temperatures hitting 42
While steelhead may be past their peak on most rivers, forecasted rains will likely bring in pushes of fresh fish. Egg imitations continue to produce with all the spawning fish on beds, as well as fry and alevin patterns.
Some rain last week gave the rivers a nice little bump in water flow and some additional steelhead moving upstream from lake Michigan. Clarity is still really good on the Manistee River below Tippy Dam, and is a little more stained on the Betsie River. Water temperatures have pretty much
St. Joseph River: Continues to produce a few walleye and steelhead. Most were fishing near the Berrien Springs Dam. Look for the steelhead bite with the warm-up.
Grand River near Grand Rapids: Continues to produce a few good runs of steelhead. Fish have been caught on jigs with wax worms, spawn and beads. Most are fishing near the 6th Street Dam and below. Walleye were caught off the wall and at Fulton Street. No big numbers, but steelhead still can be found in the Rogue River.
Muskegon River: Had decent steelhead fishing.
Manistee River: Look for steelhead in the deeper holes during the cold snap. Brown trout fishing was slow below Tippy Dam. With the next thaw, steelhead fishing should really pick up.
Pere Marquette River: Was also producing steelhead for those using spawn, beads and wax worms.
